Obama in Allentown

Tue Apr 01, 2008 at 02:49:31 PM PDT

As most of you know (if you care), I plan to vote for Hillary Clinton on April 22nd.  However, I am a realist, and I recognize that it is most likely that Barack Obama will be the Democratic nominee for President this year.

In that spirit, I decided to attend his rally in Allentown last night.  A dear friend stood on line Sunday morning and picked up tickets for us, and we all left work a little early to head to the arena on the campus of Muhlenberg College in one of the nicest neighborhoods, I think, in the whole country -- the west end of Allentown.

This morning I received an email from Miles's Drama teacher.

Drama Homework Drama

Wed Mar 12, 2008 at 07:34:48 PM PDT

PhotobucketWell, it's happened. Our refusal to subscribe to cable has ruined my second grader's chance of getting into Princeton.

Miles got a zero on an assignment for Drama class because he couldn't find a humorous television commercial to describe. I told him to explain that we don't have cable, therefore we don't get any commercial stations, therefore, he really couldn't view any commercials. The teacher didn't like that explanation.

Brilliant...with just a hint of Aspergers - Brief Update

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketSo, last night was the BIG MEETING for my husband and I with the psychologist we hired to evaluate Miles. I guess you can tell by the title of this diary that we learned a bit more about the relative composition of Miles's eccentricities.

First, I have to say that I am relieved. For 2 1/2 years I've been trying to convince Miles's school that he wasn't your ordinary gifted kid and to request more stimulating content for him. I mean, the kid started reading hardcore non-fiction science books when he was three. He flits through museum exhibitions seemingly paying attention to nothing, and then recounts the entire content of the show to us later that day. At the Darwin exhibition at the Museum of Natural History last year, he walked up to the diorama and began pointing out the specimins without looking at the text panels. "Look Mommy! A Sally Light-foot crab! Look at that Blue-Footed Booby! Marine Iguanas, cool!" The grown-ups peered at the labels and shook their heads in wonder.

So, Julia Roberts says her dream job is to be a SAHM

"My dream is to be a highly fulfilled and productive stay-at-home mom and wife," the Oscar-winning actress tells Vanity Fair magazine. "The highest high would be growing our food that I then make, and then composting and growing more -- that kind of circle."

Roberts, 40, says that life would involve having "my own creative outlet, even if it's silly needlework and stuff like that."

Halloween Costume Pictures Open Thread

Wed Oct 31, 2007 at 05:27:19 PM PDT

I'm resurrecting Hillary's Costume thread in hopes that everyone will add pics of their munchkins! We're going trick-or-treating in about 40 minutes, so I'll be adding some shots to the thread tonight. In the meantime, check out the adorable Miles and Eli after the jump! -Erika

As I've mentioned, here in the Lovely Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania, many municipalities hold Trick or Treat night on the Thursday, Friday or even Sunday night before the 31st.  A few do hold it on the 31st, but our town keeps to the Friday night tradition.
